I put up crown molding in my dining room the last two weekends. I was getting frustrated because I was not getting the results I expected. ( perfection) Here is where my thinking was skewed though- three things to think about 1) I have never put up crown molding and in fact have done very little carpentry work in my life. 2) I dont have fancy tools like table saws and power miter boxes 3) I am good with my hands, but at drawing and art not drilling, nailing etc. I teach people to have high expectations and to aim high, but there are times when it is smart to be realistic. If I have never done something before should I expect to be great at it? No, not unless I am just naturally gifted. Should I expect to be a great golfer the first time I play? A great speaker the first time I speak? A great cook the first time I cook? So I need to learn to be patient and realize there is a learning curve to all new things. So can you learn from my experience? if you are brand new at something allow your self time to learn it and don't get frustrated. Frustration is a poison which can very quickly start to take its toll. Ask yourself: Have I ever done this before? If the answer is no- don't expect too much and keep learning. My crown molding will thank you.
