Motivate by Making The Connection

Want to be more motivated?- be motivated by connecting with more people. I sometimes long for the world of my childhood when people made connections just because. On warm summer evenings in the south we would all be outside. Every neighbor was out on their porch and everybody was “visitin” Everybody knew everybody. Everybody was connected.
Connect again. Go visit your friend. Call your mom. Visit a nursing home. Call the relative you haven’t spoken to in 8 years because of oh who can remember what? Call your third cousins. Be a big brother or sister. Mentor someone. Teach someone to read. Help the lady across the street. Go over and say hi to your neighbor who’s name you don’t know. Volunteer to do something for someone. Connect on a personal level. Remember everybody’s birthday. Call instead of an e mail. Visit instead of calling. Go on a date with your spouse.
Connections are one of the keys to motivation. We live such a fast paced, crazy oh-my-god-I –have- to –get- this -done -existence, we connect less, work more and for what? To buy a bigger next thing?
Make a commitment to connect with one person a day. “How will I know when I connect?” you may say. If you have to ask, you didn’t connect.
