Have you ever heard of Orison Sweet Marsden? probably not. He wrote the book He Can Who Thinks He Can in 1908. His ideas and principles inspired a generation of future thinkers such as Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill and others. He was the grandfather of motivational thinking. Here is a quote from his book:
" The best educated people are those who are always learning, always absorbing knowledge from every possible source, and at every opportunity."
This week I was doing a training session on leadership for a group in Cocoa Beach Florida. They were so delightful- they all had a thirst for knowledge that was remarkable. They would take copious notes, they asked great questions about what we were discussing and even when we were taking breaks would ask questions. As a group they were fired up!
I you want to be really motivated- start learning! Here are a few suggestions:
- Replace the radio time in your car with learning time by listening to audios.
- Replace fiction books with non fiction books and learn while you read.
- Replace random surfing on the net with specific searching to learn about a topic.
- Replace one hour a day of TV time with some other developmental opportunity.
- Replace visit to the mall with a visit to a museum.
- Replace the money you spend on junk food and spend it on books.
When you start learning you will start to change and all things will now be possible to your energized new state of mind.
