I had jury duty yesterday. I was forced to sit in a crowded room, with hard uncomfortable chairs. We were not allowed to have food or drink in the room, and had no idea when or if we would be called for court. Each juror was paid a whopping $9.00 per day for service. It was very uncomfortable and boring. Everyone looked miserable.
I had no control at all. I decided before I went that I did have one form of control- my response. I was going to be cheerful and accept that I had no control over the process but I did have control over how I felt about it. I took a book to read. I had a file with some projects to work on. I chatted with my seatmates to my right and left.
Bottom Line- if you have to be somewhere and are required to do something be positive about it. Trust me it makes it a lot less painful. The lady next to me was complaining about everything, and I said to her " You have to just surrender to the process because you can control it." She was puzzling over my statement when the guy next to me says " You know what that is a very good point- I never thought of it that way!"
Motivation is driven by how you choose to process what is happening to you in a positive way. Have a great day!
